We ended last week with finishing up “It’s a Small World” theme with Mother Goose Time. The children really enjoyed learning about all the wonders around the world. It was a bitter/sweet ending as they (myself included) enjoyed this theme and love learning about our world, but at the same time, are really looking forward to the new theme for April, Ocean Commotion.
These last couple of weeks, we explored more in depth some of the wonders such as The Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Great Wall of China, and St. Basil’s Cathedral. One thing my boys love about this curriculum are the cool crafts and activities and they really enjoyed making the last few from this theme, especially in creating their own cathedral.
We have found Mother Goose Time curriculum to very well written and very detailed in their lessons. We have decided for our family that they are great to supplement with in our home learning. We don’t do everything that is listed in the lesson plans as we do not use it for a stand alone curriculum (although it could be used as a primary curriculum if desired), but we very much enjoy what we do use of it. The monthly themes help create a peak of interest in the different topics offered which in turn makes for more successful library trips and strengthens the boy’s love of learning! My 1yo also loves to play with the manipulates that come in every package and loves to join in with his big brothers in their lessons.
During our spring cleaning, we changed some rooms around in our home. I had to take down the items on our “circle time” wall, but ended up putting most of everything on tri-fold poster boards which I think I like even better. Now, I can just fold and put away when we are done for the day. So far, they have lasted longer and have been in much better shape than when they were on the wall since it’s less tempting for our 1yo to get a hold of everything.
So we are wrapping it up with “It’s a Small World” and are now moving forward to “Ocean Commotion”, which is perfect timing for us since we will be visiting the ocean in a couple weeks! My boys LOVE learning about the ocean and all the different sea creatures so this should be fun. If you haven’t already visited their site, but would like to learn more about Mother Goose Time, I encourage you to check them out!
